step-by-step Learner’s guide
Step 1: Learn about Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs.
According to Maslow, we have five categories of needs: physiological, safety, love and belonging, esteem, and self-actualization.
In Maslow’s theory, higher needs on the pyramid are unable to be met unless an individual has met lower needs on the pyramid. Lower needs on the pyramid consist of foundational/basic needs.
It is difficult for individuals that lack access to resources to meet the needs on the base of the pyramid and they are more likely to experience negative mental health symptoms1.
In the HMHL assessment discussed in Step 2, you will be asked to identify what needs are currently being met in your life.

Step 2: Take the Holistic Mental Health Literacy Assessment.
Step 3: Follow your individualized learning recommendations to access evidence-based holistic health education.
